We may be in the midst of a UK heatwave and not even contemplating Winter dressing but already A/W'13 collections are dropping instore.
The latest to arrive in my inbox is Monsieur Louboutins dreamy collection of which has all the Louboutin hallmarks of colour, juxtaposed hard and soft elements (like studs and suede), satin and bows and the obligatory thigh scraper boots.
Deep jewel tones, tartan fabrics, delicate lace, sparkle and strong silhouettes add to the collection’s diverse spirit and bring to life the inspirations behind the designs.
Louboutin’s Pigalle pointed-toe stiletto, with the unmistakable red sole, has emerged as an iconic staple. This Autumn sees a new shape that has been refashioned with an even slimmer, sleeker heel. This new silhouette is seen on the styles. We see it in 'So Kate' in a metallic bronze specchio (pictured above) which is shiny too shiny (already River Island has shown a very similar style at their recent Christmas press day) and on the blue kohl suede 'Geo Pump' with gold rocker-chic stud detail, as well as the seductive, over the knee, Armura Boot in vibrant red leather. If you're going to walk-the-walk, then talk-the-talk.
This collection sees the emergence of more themes and elements present in both the women’s and men’s collections. The Zazou Flat is the women’s answer to the New Platers for men: a pointy yet classic lace up oxford, updated and remastered in various finishes such as leopard print and metallic python (below).
Structured bows and semitransparent lace add a touch of glamour and femininity to the women’s flats' collection - even at ground zero level Louboutins ooze sensuality. These handmade bows adorn several styles such the elegant, four inch, evening Grusanda sandal, the lady-like Gruotta kitten heel and the stylish Gine flat.
On the Resillissima ankle boot and Lagoula mary-jane, sheer panels of delicate diamond pattern lace ever so slightly graze the skin, highlighting the curved arch of the foot and elongating the leg. The lace motif is also carried over to the quilted “matelassée” pattern on the Sweet Charity handbag, its smaller sister Sweety Charity and the Farida Messenger bag.
As ever, Louboutin manages to blend the surreal with the workable. The Louboutin woman likes her distinct presence to be felt as well as noticed.
All styles now available from Christian Louboutin.
