Yves Saint Laurent may well have been known for his sharp use of bright colour as well as Le Smoking tuxedo suit but there hasn't been much joie de vivre in Stefano Pilati's Spring 2012 collection, borne as it was from muted shades of loden green, deep purple, navy and black. Pilati always shows touches of classic genius restraint, though, while keeping to YSL's traditional brand of sophistication and it is this which keeps the label on track.
While there wasn't a hint of red in this collection possibly due to it being 'couleur interdite' of the famous red-sole dispute wherein YSL's parent company, PPR, is in legal dispute with Christian Louboutin over the right of use of the red soles that are the trademark of Louboutin's label, (currently still being disputed in court), there is plenty of vital scarlet hues to be found in the fabulous new La Laque Couture nail polish range from YSL.
Thirty brilliant shades in electrifying colours have been released to represent the Couture legacy of the House. Says Lloyd Simmonds, YSL's international make-up artist, “The La Laque Couture collection lets you dip your fingertips into the world of Couture with iconic YSL colours. And what inspiring colours! Reds, fuchsias, oranges, even gold and black. Historic colors pay tribute to YSL classics and the brand’s fashion heritage with a vast array of options. As seasonal trends unfold, new colours will be introduced.
There is enough scope and vitality in this collection for every personality from the vivid bolts of cobalt blue, liquid gold, classic fuchsia, rouge dada or orange Afrique to the 'it' colour of the season, 'beige legere No 22'
Pure colour, quick drying and high impact, these beauties also look great with their cubist gold tops.
La Laque Couture is available from YSL stockists in good dept stores nationwide. (RRP £18). Check out the range of colours HERE.
