Burberry's S/S'13 campaign features Romeo Beckham

I fear for Burberry with this one (and I do love that brand). This could be their Brad Pitt/Chanel moment and just before 2012 finishes. Still, already the Twittersphere is all abuzz with the images and conversations about its merits, or not.

What I'm referring to, of course, is Burberry's Spring/Summer'13 campaign featuring none other than Romeo Beckham. Sure, he's a cute kid but with a cheesy grin and we all know his mama and papa but really? At 10 years old?

Joining Romeo in his debut Burberry campaign are Brit models Cara Delevigne, Edie Campbell Charlotte Wiggins, Alex Dunstan, Charlie France and Max Rendell.

It could be argued that the campaign is headline grabbing, shooting Burberry to the global fore again but I fear that there may be many looking at the Romeo Beckham, little-man-cut-down-in-size Mario Testino images and thinking these a freaky-deakey step too far.

Says, Christopher Bailey, Chief Creative Officer at Burberry, "This season's campaign lights up with the infectious energy of an amazing young cast of old and new Burberry family. Cara, Edie, Charlotte, Charlie and Alex are joined by Max and Romeo, who was a joy to work with and really stole the show. We had such fun shooting the campaign and I think that comes through in the images which really reflect the upbeat spirit of the collection."

The feel is upbeat for sure, but hmm, my first gut reaction was a rustle of slight distaste, not at the model choice, but at focusing on dressing a child in adult's clothes. Just seems a bit off-key and distasteful. And that's not Burberry nor British.

Please let me know what your thoughts are re. Romeo Beckham in Burberry's new S/S'13 campaign. Leave a comment below.
